World Cup Heartbreak: Billy Gilmour Ruled Out 💔

Scotland’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been dealt a devastating blow. The Scottish Football Association has officially confirmed that midfielder Billy Gilmour will miss the upcoming tournament after sustaining a serious knee injury.

What Happened?

The Incident: During Saturday’s final warm-up friendly against Curaçao, the 24-year-old collapsed to the pitch without any contact from another player late in the first half.

The Substitution: Although he managed to walk off the field, Gilmour was unable to continue and was immediately substituted.

The Confirmation: Following medical assessment, the SFA announced that the injury is severe enough to rule him out of the entire World Cup campaign.

A Crushing Loss for Scotland

Manager Steve Clarke expressed his heartbreak over the news, noting that the timing of the injury is "so, so cruel" given Gilmour's status as an integral part of Scotland's engine room. The midfielder has already returned to his club, SSC Napoli, to begin his rehabilitation process.

As Scotland prepares to depart for the United States for their opener against Haiti, the focus now shifts to how the team will cope without one of their most vital creative outlets in midfield.
