Back to Italy: Guglielmo Vicario Reaches Full Agreement with Inter Milan

The "Venom" is returning to Serie A! As of May 1, 2026, reports indicate that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has reached a "complete" agreement on personal terms to join Inter Milan this summer. After a turbulent 2025/26 campaign in North London, the 29-year-old Italian international is set to become the long-term successor to Yann Sommer at San Siro.

1. The Transfer Breakdown: Terms and Obstacles

While the player has green-lit the move, a few hurdles remain before he can officially pull on the Nerazzurri colors.

Personal Terms Settled: Vicario’s camp has reached a full agreement with Inter regarding contract length and future wages. The player reportedly preferred Inter over interest from Juventus.

The Valuation: Inter expects a club-to-club agreement with Tottenham to be a "formality," with figures between €15m and €20m currently cited.

Relegation Factor: Spurs are currently battling the drop, sitting in the relegation zone and two points from safety with four games remaining. A potential relegation is expected to accelerate Vicario's departure.

Sommer’s Exit: Current Inter #1 Yann Sommer (37) is out of contract in June and is not expected to extend his stay, clearing the path for Vicario to take the starting spot.

2. Why the Move? A Season of Struggles

Despite a brilliant debut season in 2023/24, Vicario’s form in the 2025/26 campaign has been marred by inconsistency and injuries.

Hernia Setback: Vicario recently underwent a hernia operation, which may have already ended his season and his Tottenham career.

Declining Stats: While he remains an elite shot-stopper, criticisms regarding his aerial command and build-up play have intensified under the pressure of Spurs' relegation scrap.

Spurs Restructure: Tottenham reportedly decided as early as January to reorganize their goalkeeping department, identifying Manchester City's James Trafford as a potential replacement.

3. Inter's Long-Term Vision

For Inter, landing Vicario represents a massive coup—securing a top-tier Italian keeper at the peak of his powers.

Elite Reflexes: Despite his struggles in England, Vicario’s stock remains high in Italy due to his historic one-on-one ability and concentration levels.

Squad Refresh: With Yann Sommer departing, Vicario will compete with or succeed Josep Martínez for the starting role.
