Niklas Füllkrug wants AC Milan move ahead of any proposal from Bundesliga.

The January transfer window hasn't even opened yet, but the first major "domino" of the winter has already begun to fall. Niklas Füllkrug, the towering German international, is reportedly on the verge of a move to AC Milan, having made it clear that San Siro is his only desired destination.

In a move that has surprised many in Germany, Füllkrug has reportedly instructed his representatives to "freeze" all negotiations with Bundesliga clubs—including serious inquiries from VfL Wolfsburg and FC Augsburg—to ensure nothing stands in the way of his move to Italy.

The "San Siro or Nothing" Mandate

After a frustrating 18 months in East London with West Ham United, Füllkrug is ready for a fresh start.

While a return to the familiar grounds of the Bundesliga seemed like the safest bet, the 32-year-old striker is reportedly enamored by the project currently being built at Milan.

The Allegri Connection: Reports suggest that Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri specifically requested Füllkrug.

Allegri is looking for a "heavyweight" No. 9—a physical focal point who can hold up play and provide a different dimension than the club’s current attacking options.

A World Cup Mission: With the 2026 World Cup looming, Füllkrug knows he needs consistent minutes at a high level. He views the tactical nature of Serie A as the perfect environment to sharpen his game and secure his spot in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad.

Milan’s Injury Crisis Sparks Action

The urgency behind this deal isn't just one-sided. Milan’s pursuit accelerated following the devastating news that Santiago Giménez requires ankle surgery, leaving the Rossoneri thin in the final third.

Sporting Director Igli Tare has moved swiftly, reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with Füllkrug on a contract worth approximately €1.5 million for the remainder of the season. The deal is expected to be a six-month loan with an option for Milan to make the move permanent in the summer of 2026.

The Bundesliga Snub

For Wolfsburg and Augsburg, this comes as a bitter blow. Both clubs had hoped to capitalize on Füllkrug’s "London Nightmare" to bring a proven goalscorer back to Germany.

Wolfsburg even leaned on Füllkrug’s former teammate, Pirmin Schwegler (now in the front office), to lure him back to Lower Saxony.

The Verdict: Füllkrug remains grateful to the Bundesliga, but at this stage of his career, the lure of the "Devil" and the chance to compete for a Scudetto was simply too high to ignore.

What This Means for West Ham

For the Hammers, the Füllkrug era will likely go down as a "what if." After joining for £27 million from Dortmund in 2024, a combination of injuries and a lack of tactical fit saw him fall behind Callum Wilson in the pecking order. Offloading his wages in January allows the club to reinvest in a profile better suited to Nuno Espírito Santo’s high-octane system.

The deal is in the home stretch. Barring any late medical hiccups, "Lücke" will be trading the London rain for the fashion capital of the world.
