AC Milan and Inter have officially completed the purchase of the San Siro and the surrounding area from the city of Milan, paving the way for the demolition of the historic stadium and the construction of a new arena.
Key details of the acquisition and future plans:
Finalized deal: On November 5, 2025, the clubs signed the deed of sale with the Municipality of Milan to acquire the San Siro area.
Total cost: The deal was valued at €197 million.
Demolition timeline: The sale was completed ahead of a November 10 deadline, after which heritage
restrictions would have made it nearly impossible to tear down the second tier of the 99-year-old stadium.
New stadium plan: The new 71,500-seat stadium will be jointly built by the clubs and is being designed by architectural firms Foster + Partners and Manica.
Transition period: The existing San Siro will still be used to host the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.
Long-term goal: The plan is to have the new stadium ready in time for Italy co-hosting the 2032 European Championship.
