Kylian Mbappé equals Cristiano Ronaldo's record for most goals by a Real Madrid player in a single calendar year

Kylian Mbappé has ended 2025 by etching his name alongside his greatest idol. On Saturday, December 20, 2025—his 27th birthday—Mbappé scored his 59th goal of the calendar year for Real Madrid, equalling the all-time club record for goals in a single year held by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The historic moment came in the 86th minute of Real Madrid’s final game of the year, a 2–0 victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Breakdown: 59 Goals in 58 Games

Mbappé’s 2025 has been a display of relentless efficiency. While Ronaldo set the benchmark in 2013 with 59 goals in 50 matches, Mbappé reached the tally in 58 appearances, showcasing incredible durability across multiple competitions.

Mbappé’s 2025 Statistical Profile:

Total Goals: 59

La Liga: 31 (Combined 24/25 and 25/26 seasons)

Champions League: 9 (Currently top scorer of the 25/26 campaign)

Copa del Rey: 2

Braces: 11

Hat-tricks: 4

Four-Goal Haul: 1

A Tribute to the "GOAT"

After converting the late penalty to secure the record, Mbappé didn't use his signature folded-arms celebration. Instead, he performed a subdued version of Ronaldo’s iconic "Siu" celebration, leaping into the air and thrusting his arms down toward the Bernabéu turf.

"It's an incredible feeling," Mbappé told Real Madrid TV. "To do in my first full year what Cristiano did—my idol, the best player in the history of this club—is an honor. My celebration was for him. He helped me adapt here, and I wanted to share this moment with him."

Winning for Xabi Alonso

The result provided much-needed relief for manager Xabi Alonso. Real Madrid had entered the game under intense pressure following two consecutive losses.

The Match: Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 38th minute.

The Struggle: Despite Sevilla going down to 10 men in the 68th minute (Marcao red card), Madrid relied on several world-class saves from

Thibaut Courtois to keep their lead before Mbappé’s record-equalling penalty.

The Standing: The win moves Madrid within one point of La Liga leaders Barcelona, who face Villarreal later today.

The Verdict

Mbappé’s first full calendar year in Madrid has silenced any lingering doubters. By equalling a record many thought was untouchable in the post-Ronaldo era, he has officially inaugurated the "KM10" era at the Bernabéu.
