Morocco's U20 national team, nicknamed the "Atlas Cubs", made history on October 19, 2025,
by defeating six-time champions Argentina 2-0 in the FIFA U20 World Cup final held in Chile.
This victory marks Morocco's first-ever title at this level and makes them only the second African nation to lift the trophy, following Ghana's triumph in 2009.
The final match was a stunning upset, with Morocco putting on a dominant display against the favored Argentine side.
Argentina's hopes were dealt an early blow when their goalkeeper, Santino Barbi, received a red card for a last-man challenge on Morocco's Yassir Zabiri in the first half.
Zabiri then capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a brilliant free-kick in the 12th minute to open the scoring.
He doubled Morocco's lead just before the half-hour mark, slotting home from a precise cross.
Morocco's disciplined defensive performance in the second half ensured they held onto their lead and secured the historic 2-0 victory.
This win has sparked widespread celebration across Morocco and the African continent, according to reports. Many sources and football enthusiasts are noting
the significance of this achievement for African football on the global stage. Many are praising Morocco's consistency and quality throughout the tournament, especially their impressive run that saw them overcome strong teams like Spain, Brazil, and France en route to the final.
Individual honors were also showered upon the Moroccan team. Othmane Maamma, a key figure in Morocco's attack, was awarded the prestigious adidas Golden Ball for the tournament's best player. Zabiri, the final's hero with both goals, received the Adidas Silver Ball.
