Michelle Agyemang will miss the rest of the 2025–26 season

England international and rising star Michelle Agyemang has also seen her season cut short.

The 19-year-old forward confirmed via Instagram that she has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The injury occurred during England's 3-0 friendly victory against Australia, just moments after Agyemang had entered the game as a second-half substitute. She was a key player in the Lionesses' Euro 2025 triumph and had made a promising start to her second loan spell at Brighton from parent club Arsenal.

The ACL injury is a devastating and all-too-common blight on the women's game. It will require a lengthy rehabilitation period, but Agyemang has shown her trademark determination, writing that she will "be back stronger than before".

With support from both Brighton and Arsenal, she will undoubtedly tackle her recovery with the same fighting spirit she shows on the pitch.

The resilience of athletes

The timing of these injuries, particularly after periods of strong performance, is a cruel reminder of the unpredictable nature of top-tier sport. The long road to recovery will be a mental and physical challenge for both players.

However, their youth and talent suggest that, with the right support, they can bounce back and continue to dazzle on the pitch.

We wish Michelle Agyemang all the best in her recovery.
