Phobian Resurgence: Hearts of Oak Finish 2025 on a High at the Legon Stadium

The "Phobia" spirit is well and truly back in the capital. On Friday, December 26, 2025, Accra Hearts of Oak wrapped up their 2025 calendar in style, securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over defending champions FC Samartex.

The win marks the Phobians' third consecutive victory at their new temporary home, the University of Ghana (Legon) Stadium, completing a remarkable turnaround since moving away from the Accra Sports Stadium in November.

The Match Breakdown: Issah the Hero Again

In what was a high-stakes Matchday 16 encounter, Hearts of Oak demonstrated the defensive discipline and clinical edge that has defined their recent run under the Legon lights.

4’ | THE BREAKTHROUGH: The Phobians wasted no time. After Mawuli Wayo forced a goalmouth error from the Samartex defense,

he teed up the prolific Hamza Issah, who made no mistake from close range. It was Issah’s 9th goal of the season, cementing his status as one of the league's most dangerous marksmen. ⚽️🔥

Defensive Resilience: Samartex, the 2023/24 champions, pushed hard for an equalizer in the second half. However, Hearts goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi was in inspired form, producing a spectacular save from Christian Agyenim Boateng to preserve the lead. 🧤🚫

The Legon Factor: Since relocating to the Legon Sports Stadium due to fan pressure and poor form at the national stadium,

Hearts remain unbeaten, winning all three fixtures played at the venue (vs. Vision FC, Bechem United, and now Samartex).

The Standings: A "Big Three" Battle at the Top

This victory catapults Hearts of Oak to 2nd place in the Ghana Premier League table as the year draws to a close. They are now level on points with leaders Aduana Stars, setting up a mouth-watering title race for 2026.

The "New Home" Effect

The decision by management to move to the University of Ghana Stadium has proven to be a masterstroke.

Pitch Quality: Players have praised the superior turf at Legon, which suits Hearts' passing style.

Fan Atmosphere: The compact nature of the stadium has created a "hostile" environment for visiting teams, something that was lacking during the slump at the Accra Sports Stadium earlier this season.

The Verdict: Hearts of Oak enter the New Year as the most in-form team in the country. With Hamza Issah scoring for fun and the "Legon Fortress" established, the Phobian faithful are dreaming of a first league title since 2021.
