Luis Suárez signs a one-year contract extension with Inter Miami!

The "Uruguayan Gunslinger" isn't hanging up his boots just yet! Inter Miami officially announced today, December 17, 2025, that Luis Suárez has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club through the 2026 MLS season.

Fresh off lifting the 2025 MLS Cup earlier this month, the 38-year-old (who turns 39 in January) has decided to run it back for one final season alongside his long-time partner, Lionel Messi.

Why Suárez is Staying

The decision follows a historic campaign where Suárez defied critics who questioned his physical longevity. His presence in 2026 is seen as vital for several reasons:

Elite Production: In 2025, Suárez recorded a staggering 17 goals and 17 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

The "Core Two" Remains: With Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets officially retiring after the 2025 season, Suárez’s renewal provides much-needed leadership and continuity for a changing roster.

Miami Freedom Park: The 2026 season will mark the opening of Inter Miami’s new state-of-the-art stadium. Club owners Jorge Mas and David Beckham were reportedly desperate to have both Messi and Suárez headline the inaugural match at the new venue in April 2026.

What’s New for 2026?

The "Herons" are already busy reshaping the squad for their title defense. While Busquets and Alba have departed, the club has already moved to fill the gaps:

Sergio Reguilón: Signed as a free agent this week to replace Jordi Alba at left-back.

Lionel Messi’s Future: Messi has also reportedly committed to a fresh deal that could keep him in South Florida until the end of 2028, ensuring the "Messi-Suárez" connection remains the most feared duo in the league.

"To continue playing at this level, with this club and these fans, is a blessing," Suárez said in the official club statement. "We have more history to write at our new home next year."
