Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has been appointed as the new head coach of all of Uganda's National Junior Men's Teams (U15, U17, and U20)
on a two-year contract. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) officially unveiled Kingston on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Kingston's background
Kingston is a former Ghana international player with a thirteen-year playing career in Russia, Scotland, the Netherlands, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
He holds UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses. His coaching experience includes managing the Ghana U17 team and working with the Right to Dream Academy and
FC Nordsjaelland. He resigned from his role as Black Starlets head coach after the team did not qualify for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Significance of the appointment
Kingston's appointment continues FUFA's practice of employing Ghanaian coaches for their youth development programs.
FUFA expects Kingston to introduce new strategies to help develop young talent. While Kingston will oversee all junior teams,
Brian Ssenyondo will coach the Uganda U17 team at the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup. This appointment is seen as a new development for Ugandan youth football.
