Liverpool Confirm New Long-Term Contract for Rising Star Rio Ngumoha

Liverpool have officially confirmed that teenage winger Rio Ngumoha has signed his first professional contract with the club,

marking another milestone in the rapid rise of one of England’s brightest young prospects.

The 17-year-old made the bold decision to leave Chelsea’s academy in the summer of 2024 to join Liverpool, and the move has already paid dividends.

Ngumoha has broken into Arne Slot’s first-team squad this season, registering four senior appearances so far and announcing himself in spectacular fashion with a

goal on his Premier League debut against Newcastle United.

First Professional Deal Secured

Having celebrated his 17th birthday just last month, Ngumoha has now seen his scholarship converted into a professional contract.

According to The Daily Mail, the deal runs for three years and is reportedly worth around

£1,000 per week ($1,300)—a figure in line with Liverpool’s strict wage policy for academy graduates.

The structure is designed to ensure young players remain grounded and motivated to earn improved terms through performance and progression.

A Dream Start to Senior Football

Ngumoha’s breakthrough moment came in August when he was introduced late in Liverpool’s clash against Newcastle at St. James’ Park.

Just four days before turning 17, the youngster came off the bench in stoppage time to score a dramatic late equaliser—instantly

capturing the imagination of fans and pundits alike.

Mohamed Salah’s Advice: Stay Grounded

Following the goal, Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah was quick to share some words of wisdom with his new teammate.

Speaking to Men in Blazers, Salah revealed he urged Ngumoha to enjoy the moment but avoid the distractions of early fame.

“He’s still so young,” Salah said. “I told him after the game, ‘Just leave the social media alone. You can celebrate with your family and friends,

enjoy the moment, but don’t go looking for validation online. That appreciation is always going to be fake.’”

Salah also warned against the dangers of peaking too early in football:

“What future awaits him depends on how he handles the situation. He has to work hard and stay humble. Some players peak too soon and then struggle after that.

I really wish him the best. He has a good group here and the manager speaks to him a lot, so if he stays grounded, he can achieve great things.”

Looking Ahead

With Ngumoha tied down to a long-term deal, Liverpool will be eager to carefully manage his development. Under Arne Slot,

the teenager is expected to get further opportunities in cup competitions and select league fixtures, as the club continues its

tradition of blooding top young talent on the biggest stage.

For the young winger, the challenge now will be to follow Salah’s advice—stay humble, keep working,

and build steadily on what has already been a whirlwind start to his professional career.
