Nigeria Forward Ademola Lookman Returns to Atalanta Camp After Inter Milan Move Collapses

Ademola Lookman’s highly anticipated switch to Inter Milan has fallen through, leaving the Nigerian forward back at Atalanta’s pre-season camp as

he prepares for the 2025/26 season.

A Transfer That Almost Happened

Reports across Italy confirmed that Inter Milan had opened talks with Atalanta over a potential deal for Lookman this summer.

The Nerazzurri, seeking attacking reinforcements after narrowly missing out on the Serie A title last season, identified the Super Eagles star as a key target.

However, negotiations collapsed due to disagreements over transfer fees and contract details.

Inter were unwilling to match Atalanta’s valuation, while the Bergamo club stood firm, unwilling to lose one of their most consistent performers for a reduced price.

Back With Atalanta

With the deal off the table, Lookman has now rejoined Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad for pre-season training.

The 27-year-old, who has become a fan favorite in Bergamo, is expected to play a major role in Atalanta’s domestic and European campaigns this season.

Lookman’s Rise in Italy

Since joining Atalanta in 2022, Lookman has enjoyed the best spell of his career.

2022/23 season: 13 Serie A goals in 31 appearances.

2023/24 season: Helped Atalanta secure Champions League qualification.

2024/25 season: Contributed crucial goals and assists as the club pushed for silverware.

His pace, dribbling, and ability to score in big games have made him one of the most exciting forwards in Serie A.

What’s Next for Lookman?

While Inter Milan may no longer be an option this summer, Lookman continues to attract attention from clubs across Europe.

For now, though, Atalanta fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their star man will remain in Bergamo—at least for the start of the new season.

The coming months will be crucial, as consistent performances could either secure him a long-term future at Atalanta or reignite transfer interest from top European clubs.
